The USA top of the Global Cup in April, Australia jumps 4 places into 9th

Adam Scott (AUS) celebrates his Augusta Masters Golf title
The USA retain their Global Cup lead at the end of April 2013.
They have increased their margin over second-placed Norway to 209 points: is it the start of their customary irresistible progression?
Very little has changed in the Global Cup’s top ten this month. The most notable gain has been Australia’s, chiefly on the strength of Adam Scott’s stirring win at the Augusta Masters Golf tournament. The Aussies have kangarooed up four places into 9th, one position better than their final 2012 standing.
In the Per Capita Cup, which measures the number of inhabitants needed to score one GSN point, Slovenia is still leading as the world’s sportiest nation (only 4808 citizens per point) but Norway has closed the gap to a mere 5 inhabitants!
Elsewhere in the Global Cup ranking, a mention for Kenya and Ethiopia: they have climbed 12 and 14 positions respectively in May, just outside of the top 20, thanks to the start of the Marathon season.
Winter Sports: with only the Men Ice Hockey World Championships left to play (from May 19th), the USA are leading this GSN-exclusive ranking too…thanks to their Ladies taking the Women title from Canada. For the Canucks to retain their Winter Sports crown they need to bag all 180 points available for the Men Ice Hockey title, and hope the USA don’t make it to the semifinals.

A very close race, follow it on GSN next month!
