Small nations, big winners
We picked at least one athlete for each of the top 5 countries in the 2010 Per Capita Cup, to exemplify the stuff these mighty midgets are made of.
For Norway; the hero is Petter Northug, who claimed 2 golds, 1 silver and one bronze at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics Cross Country events.
For Switzerland: it’s between Didier Defago, gold medallist in the Men Downhill event at the Vancouver Winter Olympics, and Carlo Janka, who took the honours in the Giant Slalom.
For Austria: they scored 1.360 of their 1.460 overall Global Cup points in Winter Sports…but what about Stefan Raser, who clinched gold in the 300m Men Rifle (prone) at the World Shooting Championships 2010?
For Slovenia: the Men Basketball team, 8th placed in this year’s World Championships.
For New Zealand: it’s not Rugby Union but Rowing! The Kiwis came third overall in this year’s World Rowing Championships held in home waters, where they clinched gold both in the Men (E. Murray and H. Bond) and the Ladies (J. Edward and L. Strack) Pair.
