Athlete of the month April 2011: Elizabeth Gorgl & team mates; USA Ice Hockey Ladies

April wraps up virtually all winter sports and the awards for this month take very much into account what happened over the winter and the World Alpine Skiing Championships in Garmisch (Germany).

With so many competitions we just had to consider team rather than individual performances. Up to a point, because Austria’s team effort at the Alpine Skiing Worlds is the result of four outstanding golds in the Ladies’ Downhill (Elizabeth Gorgl), Combined (Anna Fenninger), Slalom (Marlies Schild) and Super G (Elizabeth Gorgl), plus many other great placements, by Ladies and Men.

 

We chose to share the award with the USA’s Ladies Ice Hockey team that won gold at the Hockey Worlds, in what was the biggest single tally by American athletes up to April.
