Russia tops the ranking in ‘martial month’ October

T. Kashirina of Russia
Russia topped the October monthly Global Cup  ranking, at the end of a month notable for several major events in combat and ‘martial’ sports.
Russia scored points in Shooting, Amateur Boxing, Archery and Weightlifting (winning the Weightlifting World Championships well ahead of China and North Korea),  but the USA countered almost blow by blow in those sports, as well as winning outright the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships (ahead of Japan and China).
As a result, the US still continue to lead the Global Cup table and look set to earn the title of world’s top nation in sports for the sixth year running, since GSN records began.

Having mentioned ‘martial’ sports, it’s worth having a look at the situation in the Combat Sports grouping, which puts together the results in Amateur Boxing, Judo, Taekwondo, Free and Greco-roman Wrestling.
All the year’s main tournament have now taken place, and the final ranking is notable for the absence of the USA from the top ten. The US are in fact joint 14th with China, while the title for 2013 goes to Russia, ahead of South Korea and Cuba. The full top ten is below, with a special mention also for 11th-placed Mongolia.
