Small nations, big winners

We picked at least one athlete for each of the top 5 countries in the 2009 Per Capita Cup, to exemplify the stuff these mighty midgets are made of.

For Jamaica….how to choose between the sensational Usain Bolt and any of his lady sprinting counterparts?

For Norway: it’s between Aksel Lund Svindal, Overall Alpine Skiing World Cup winner, and Petter Northug, winner of the 50km at the World Cross Country Skiing Championships.

For Slovenia: Primoz Kozmus, winner of the Hammer competition at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin.

For New Zealand: Valerie Vili, winner of the Shot Put competition at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin.

For Austria: it’s very tough to choose among the innumerable outstanding athletes who clinched victories in Winter Sports for Austria. Our preference goes to Siegfried Grabner, winner of the overall title in the Snowboarding World Cup, and Manfred Pranger, winner of the Slalom competition at the Alpine Skiing World Championships.
