Norway tops both Global Cup, Per Capita Cup after February
After their exploits at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, Norway lead the 2018 Global Cup standings at the end of February with 753 points. They have a margin of 123 points over the USA in second place.
The Scandinavian country, population 5.277 million, is also currently leading the Per Capita Cup, the ranking of the world’s sportiest nations, measuring how many inhabitants a country needs to score one GSN point. Leading both rankings at the same time is an amazing sporting feat, one that Norway is no stranger to however, having already succeeded in this incredible ‘double’ at the end of March last year.
Back to the Global Cup, Germany, who came second at the Winter Olympics, are just 9 points behind the USA in third place.
The PyeongChang Olympics have had a major influence on the rest of the standings, with Canada, Sweden, the Olympic Athletes of Russia (OAR), Switzerland, France, Japan and Austria rounding out the Top Ten after their performances at the Winter Games.
The Global Cup is the annual ranking of the world’s best sporting nations, based on results from 1250 events across 176 different tournaments and 83 different sports.
