July Athlete of the Month: Andres Iniesta of Spain

The suave and supremely skilful Iniesta would probably be the first to remark that football is a team sport and no single player is more important than any of his team mates.

But there are times when one player’s skill and effort are decisive, and none more so in this sport than when scoring the winning goal for his country in the FIFA Football World Cup, arguably the world’s most important sport’s most important tournament.

Enough said? There are many achievements in Iniesta’s already brilliant career, foremost the many victories at national and international level with his club, Barcelona. But a World Cup victory is unique, so for GSN he fully deserves this month’s Athlete of the Month award, and is a strong contender for Athlete of the Year.
