SHOES
The high jump shoe must provide maximum traction and control to the whole foot during the run-up, and be lightweight and versatile to allow for either right- or left-footed take off.
The sole is typically spiked with as many as 11 spikes. A full-length outsole wrap enhances support, traction and durability, and the symmetrical platform ensure take-off is optimised from both directions.
CROSS BAR, STANDARDS, LANDING MATS
Landing mats are usually made of soft but resilient plastic foam. Sizes vary but the most common is 6m x 4m x 70cm. They are rectangular in shape, with room along one of the long sides to place the cross bar standards, so that the matting extends beyond the length of the crossbar, to allow extra landing room.
